Boston Accent on Boston Behind the Scenes

I recorded a new Boston Behind the Scenes yesterday with a linguist from BU talking about the Boston accent:

It’s a dialect I hear every day, but almost all most people know about it is encapsulated in the phrase “Let’s pahk the cah in Hahvahd Yahd,” but that isn’t really the way people talk here. To do a little better, I went to someone who could give us the real deal.

Nemesis Defeated

But I don’t know if I cheated in figuring out the answer…

Update: I looked up the “real” answer, and I still don’t know if I cheated. I didn’t solve it the way you are supposed to, but I don’t like the way you are supposed to solve it. My way is more elegant, though it might be considered cheating by some puzzle purists. Whether I cheated or not, I don’t really like either solution, and therefore don’t really like the puzzle.

My New Nemesis

I went to Eureka! in Brookline and spent $55 on puzzles today.

Junk Mail Evolution

I once took a Photoshop class through my job, and ever since I’ve been getting flyers in the mailbox by my desk advertising these kind of workshops.

At first, the ads were mostly for tech workshops like the one I attended. However, as my address filtered through the educational junk mail universe, I got more unusual things. Some were for public speaking or organizational workshops, while others invited me to become a better manager.

Today though, I got this one: Effective Intervention Strategies for Chronically Disruptive Students. For just $199 per person (Satisfaction guaranteed!), I can learn “a new and highly effective approach to classroom management.”

Anyone want to go in my place?

My First Paid WordPress Project is Complete

I just finished up the customization and setup of Will Richmond’s BroadbandVideo360, a blog about online video. I’ve done a number of WordPress sites before (including the one you are reading, of course), but this was the first time I’ve done it for a client.
